Engineering decisions on site need to be supported by clear quality records and coordinated construction activity. This Canberra Site Engineer position focuses on structural concrete and civil infrastructure, working alongside project managers, supervisors and delivery teams throughout construction and completion.
You will connect drawing reviews and technical queries with inspections, reinforcement checks, construction planning and handover documentation. The role calls for genuine site experience and sound engineering knowledge, with scope to develop towards senior site and project engineering responsibilities. Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate engineering activities for structural concrete and civil infrastructure works with project managers, supervisors and construction crews.
- Implement project quality assurance procedures and ITP requirements, managing inspection requests, hold points, witness points and construction quality records.
- Prepare lot documentation, conformance records and handover packs, and document non-conformances and assist with their resolution.
- Review construction drawings, structural details, specifications and project requirements; raise RFIs and progress technical queries with clients, consultants and contractors.
- Support reinforcement, formwork and concrete works, checking installed reinforcement against approved drawings and specifications.
- Assist with site setout and verification, and provide technical guidance to site supervision and construction teams.
- Track construction progress against the programme, report potential delays and coordinate materials, plant and consumables for planned activities.
- Participate in site inspections, coordination meetings and progress reviews.
- Keep engineering, quality and project documentation accurate and support site safety and environmental compliance.
- Work with head contractors, subcontractors and stakeholders to meet quality, programme and delivery objectives, proposing improvements to engineering and construction processes.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Have a minimum 2 years of Australian Site Engineer experience on structural concrete or civil infrastructure projects.
- Hold a tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a Structural Engineering-related discipline.
- Understand construction engineering and site delivery in practice, with solid knowledge of QA systems, ITPs, inspections and construction documentation.
- Interpret structural drawings and technical specifications, and bring experience managing RFIs, technical queries and non-conformance processes.
- Communicate clearly in writing and verbally, with good organisational and documentation skills.
- Hold a White Card and current driver's licence, and be able to obtain required ACT site inductions and project access clearances.
- Be comfortable working on active construction sites, with a professional, reliable approach and strong teamwork and stakeholder communication.
- Be willing to learn and develop professionally.
- Bridge construction experience is highly regarded, as is experience with dams, spillways or water infrastructure.
- Experience working with Tier 1 or Tier 2 head contractors is highly regarded.
- Experience in reinforcement scheduling, procurement, fixing supervision and quality control is highly regarded.
