Keeping a busy kitchen organised is the focus of this Sous Chef vacancy listed in Whangarei, New Zealand. The established waterfront restaurant serves relaxed dining built around fresh flavours and quality local ingredients. Alongside the Executive Chef, you will help lead the team and maintain standards through demanding services.
The position can be permanent or fixed-term, with a firm minimum of at least 30 hours a week. Applicants with New Zealand work eligibility are preferred, but sponsorship may be considered for the right candidate. The kitchen remit covers service checks, stock, staff records and practical training.

Key Responsibilities
- Stand in for the Executive Chef during absences and brief all chefs on the day's requirements.
- Maintain the required stock levels and ensure both quality and quantity are suitable.
- Update timetables, leave rosters and attendance registers.
- Ensure hygiene regulations are observed; report maintenance issues and follow them through.
- Maintain smooth communication between the kitchen and restaurant.
- Inspect every outgoing dish for quality, quantity, presentation and temperature.
- Provide regular on-the-job training and treat every member of staff fairly and courteously.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Have solid experience in a busy, quality-focused kitchen, either ready to step up or already working as a Sous Chef.
- Bring strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate a team, with excellent organisation and communication skills.
- Have a genuine passion for great food and consistency.
- Stay calm when the kitchen becomes busy.
- Bring a positive attitude, a good work ethic and a sense of humour.
